Our Community Proves the Method

podcastcommunitymindset

The short answer

After a stretch of burnout that almost ended Garage Gym Athlete, we spent seven months clarifying the vision and rebuilding the company around a longer mission: a new website, updated branding, a new logo, and our own web app and database. Episode 353 is the full update on what changed, why it changed, and what is coming next.

Most company updates are noise. This one is not. Episode 353 opens with Jerred admitting he almost quit, and everything after that is the story of what he did instead. Seven months of stepping back, getting clear, and rebuilding Garage Gym Athlete around a mission big enough to be worth another decade.

Why he almost quit, and what happened instead

Burnout is not a badge. It is a signal, and the honest read on it is that something in the setup was not sustainable. Rather than push through and grind the company into the ground, Jerred took the time to figure out what Garage Gym Athlete is actually for over the long haul.

What came out of that is a 10-year vision. Not a quarter plan, not a launch calendar. A direction that makes the daily decisions obvious. That vision is the real subject of this episode, and everything else covered here is downstream of it.

What is live right now

The new website is up. The branding has been updated, and yes, the logo changed. He explains the reasoning behind that in the episode, because a logo change is never just a logo change. It is the visible edge of a bigger decision about who you are and where you are going.

There is also one practical item worth flagging if you have bought programs from us before. Access to those programs moved, and the episode walks through exactly how to get to them. If you own something, you still own it. You just get to it a different way now.

The web app is live, apps are in testing

The biggest piece is the platform. The web app is live today. The Apple and Android apps are still in testing, which is on purpose. Shipping a broken app to your whole community is a worse outcome than shipping a good one a few weeks later.

Jerred also addresses why we left Train Heroic. That is a fair question, and so is the one he raises himself: "I thought you didn't want to be an app company." He answers it directly in the episode. The short version is that this is not about becoming an app company. It is about not renting the thing your entire athlete experience runs on.

Why owning the database matters

This is the part that is easy to skip past and is actually the most important. We finally own our own database. That does two things.

First, it gives us control over the athlete experience. When you control the platform, you can fix what is broken, build what is missing, and stop waiting on someone else's roadmap to serve your own people.

Second, it gives us training data. Real data from real athletes doing the actual programming, which feeds directly back into making that programming better. That loop was not possible before. Now it is, and it compounds every single week the community trains.

This is not Train Heroic 2.0

Jerred is blunt about this. The goal was never to rebuild what we left. The app roadmap he lays out makes that clear, and by his own description we are just getting warmed up. There is a lot more coming than what is in your hands today.

On the content side, expect more from us on YouTube, more video, and more behind the scenes. If you have wanted a better look at how the programming gets made and how the company actually operates, that is the direction things are heading.

The community proves the method

The episode closes where the whole thing started: with you. The method works because a community of people keeps showing up and proving it works, year after year. The tech is a tool. The branding is a wrapper. The community, the method, and the daily over decades mindset are the center of everything we are building.

Thank you for sticking with us through a hard stretch. The next decade is the point.

Frequently asked questions

Is the new Garage Gym Athlete app available yet?

The web app is live now. The Apple and Android versions are still in testing, so they are not out to everyone yet.

How do I access programs I already purchased?

You still have access. The location changed with the platform move, and Jerred walks through exactly how to get to your programs in this episode.

Why did Garage Gym Athlete leave Train Heroic?

Owning our own platform and database gives us control over the athlete experience and access to training data that makes the programming better. Jerred covers the full reasoning in episode 353.

Train like an athlete. For life.

Programming built this way: hard when it counts, sustainable the rest of the time.
