Recast: How To Burn Fat
The short answer
The most reliable way to burn fat is to train at a low, sustainable intensity: Zone 2, the aerobic pace where your body relies more heavily on fat for fuel. Pair that training with sound nutrition and your body gets steady practice at using fat as its primary fuel. In this recast, we break down why building an aerobic base with Zone 2 became a foundation of our training and how it makes you a better fat-burner over time.

Recast: How To Burn Fat
![]()
This week's episode is a recast. It's all on zone 2 and how to burn fat! This is where it all began for us and one of the many reasons we incorporated it into our training.
What is Zone 2 and how does it burn fat?
Zone 2 refers to a low-intensity aerobic effort — roughly the pace where you can still hold a conversation. At this intensity, your body leans more on fat as a fuel source rather than relying primarily on carbohydrates, which become more dominant as intensity climbs. Training in this zone consistently is intended to improve your aerobic capacity and your body's ability to use fat for energy, which is why the episode pairs the Zone 2 discussion with nutrition topics like fat vs. carbs and where your energy actually comes from. Rather than chasing the hardest possible workout, the emphasis is on accumulating easy aerobic volume that builds a durable base.

Frequently asked questions
What is Zone 2 training?
Zone 2 is a low-intensity aerobic effort — the kind of easy pace where you can still carry on a conversation. It's used to build aerobic base and improve your body's ability to use fat for fuel.
Does Zone 2 burn more fat than high-intensity training?
At lower intensities your body draws a greater proportion of its energy from fat, whereas higher intensities shift toward carbohydrates. That's a key reason Zone 2 is emphasized for fat-burning and aerobic development, though overall results still depend on consistency and nutrition.
Do I need any special equipment to train in Zone 2?
You don't need much — you can gauge effort by being able to hold a conversation, and a heart-rate monitor can help you stay in the right range if you want more precision.
Train like an athlete. For life.
