When motivation disappears, the fix isn't waiting around to feel inspired again β€” it's leaning on habits, accountability, and small wins that carry you through the days you don't feel like training. In this solo episode, Jerred shares 11 practical ways to stay motivated even when you just aren't feeling it.

Key Takeaways

  • Motivation naturally rises and falls, so relying on it alone tends to make training inconsistent.
  • This solo episode lays out 11 different strategies you can pull from when you don't feel like working out.
  • Habits, routine, and outside accountability are what keep most people going when motivation is low.
  • The real goal is to keep showing up so a missed day doesn't snowball into a missed week.

11 Ways to Stay Motivated (when you just aren’t motivated)

This week Jerred is solo on the podcast! He gives 11 ways on how to stay motivated even when you just aren't feeling it.

What actually keeps you motivated

Motivation is an emotion, and like any emotion it comes and goes. That's why building consistency around it matters more than chasing it. When you treat training as a non-negotiable habit rather than something you do only when you feel inspired, you remove the daily decision of whether or not to show up.

A few principles tend to help when the spark isn't there: shrink the workout down to something you'll actually start, lean on a routine and a set time of day, and put some form of accountability in place β€” a training partner, a community, or a program you've committed to. Small, repeatable wins build momentum, and momentum is far more reliable than motivation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I lose motivation to work out?

Motivation is an emotion that naturally fluctuates with stress, sleep, mood, and how repetitive your routine feels. Losing it now and then is normal β€” the problem is only when you let it dictate whether you train at all.

How do I work out when I don't feel motivated?

Rely on systems instead of feelings. Schedule training at a consistent time, make the first step as easy as possible, and use accountability β€” a partner, a community, or a structured program β€” so showing up isn't a daily decision.

Is motivation or discipline more important for fitness?

Discipline and consistency win over the long term. Motivation can get you started, but habits and accountability are what keep you training on the days motivation is nowhere to be found.
